Welcome back to the PAW Society newsletter. We unfortunately missed last month’s edition as our team was so busy, so here’s a summary of what we’ve been up to during that time!

63,000 Births Prevented

When an adopter decides to take one of our animals home, we provide the option to donate £25 towards our ‘Save a Life, Spay Another’ campaign.

We are thrilled to say that we have been able to contribute £863.87 to a two-day ‘spayathon’ in Romania, organised by one of our trusted rescuers. These funds have now helped to neuter a huge 101 animals!

This means 63,000 births have been prevented over the next five years, assuming each of these animals and their subsequent offspring would have gone on to produce just one average-sized litter each. (In reality, one litter each is a 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 conservative estimate.)

Stray animals are at huge risk of cruelty and disease and often need the support of rescues. Campaigns like this are so important as we simply can’t save them as quickly as they can breed.

Special Appeal

Rockie has been in our care for more than 470 days and not one person has shown any interest in adopting her…

We’re sure you’ll agree that this just isn’t good enough for a young dog with such gorgeous looks!

Rockie’s foster carer has spent the past 470+ days gently coaxing her out of her protective shell. This sweet girl has been one of our most nervous dogs to date, but gaining her trust has been hugely rewarding.

Very excitingly, Rockie has now discovered the joy of play and walks. Recently, she had a play date with an eight-month-old pup. While, he was a bit too bouncy for her at times, by the end of the day they were firm friends and sharing a bed.

Rockie can live with cats, dogs and children - she’s really the full package! She just asks that her adopter has a calm home in a quiet area, and can support her with further confidence building. Could you offer her this?

Gabe was quickly adopted by his fosterer who couldn’t bear to let him go. So, we’re weren’t surprised when she told us he’s ‘spoilt to bits’, sleeps on the bed every night and even gets steak each day for his dinner! His adopter said: “He’s my little shadow and is constantly following me around. Thank you all so much for letting me adopt him, he’s just so perfect and gorgeous.”

Another foster fail here! Maggie, who’s also known by her family as ‘Mouse’, was in foster for two weeks before her family decided she fit in too perfectly to say goodbye.

Maggie will do anything for treats and loves to be carried around the house. She also loves to explore outside, climbing trees and joining her family’s dog walks. In fact, her owners say she gets on so well with the resident pup that they think she may be a dog herself!

FREE Microchip Clinics

From 10th June 2024, cats MUST be microchipped, and failure to do so could see owners fined up to £500. In such difficult financial times, we know that even the cost of a microchip appointment will be impossible for some pet owners.

That’s why we’re running FREE pop-up microchip clinics in Bexhill, in partnership with GoPet Services Vets, with the first session taking place this weekend (May 19). Further clinics will be held on 1st June and 8th June.

We’re also asking for donations to help fund the sessions. Our aim is to microchip as many cats as possible, with an initial goal of 250. At around £3 per chip, it won’t come cheap.
